Therapy for Children and Teenagers in Kingston

At my practice in Kingston I work with children and teenagers using CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Mindfulness and Hypnotherapy to gain increased confidence, self esteem, overcome anxiety, phobias and become better communicators.

They learn effective techniques to teach them that they have choices and the power to overcome problems which is a tool they can use for the rest of their lives.

Children are incredibly resourceful with wonderful imaginations but they just don’t realise it.  My aim isn’t to help them unlock their full potential to be confident, happy, outgoing, motivated and positive children and teenagers.

How can Therapy help my child?

Chidlren and teenagers have brilliant minds minds that are incredibly flexible and can really grasp and develop therapeutic skills very easily.

I teach them a whole range of usable skills and techniques to build their self-esteem and confidence. Not only that, it will help change bad habits and enable them to build rapport with others. It’s practical and makes a lot of sense.

They will gain back control and have more choices to change the way they think, feel and behave. What you think about yourself or a situation, you will feel in your body. I teach children to change negative thoughts and beliefs to positive ones so that they feel great about themselves.

What happens in a session?

Every child is very unique and of course their experience is very unique too.  I work in a very collaborative way with your child or teenager to really find out what they would like to change and how they would like to feel.

Each session is tailor made for your child and specific to their needs.  I teach them a whole range of useable skills as well as exploring their own self talk and beliefs.  I teach them to make use of their imaginations to re-programme their thinking and behaviour.

Sessions are always aimed at being creative and fun where possible, particularly for primary age children and year 7 whereas teenage therapy has a more grown up approach that they can relate to.

Hypnotherapy for Children and Teenagers

Hypnosis is a very powerful and successful approach to therapy.  If I feel this could really benefit your child then I would always discuss this with you first.

Hypnosis can be likened to that day dream state or when you go on auto pilot.  Children and teenagers take to hypnosis very well because that relaxed state is very familiar to them like when they are completely absorbed in what they are doing and can’t hear you call them.

Your child will always be in control, it is a myth that you lose control.  The conscious mind is always in the back ground ready to bring them to their normal alert state should they need to.

Hypnosis would be used once your child and I have built up rapport and trust and your child or teenager begins to understand how I work. It is not always necessary for them to close their eyes during Hypnotherapy.
